Teen Banned Book Activity T

“Banned Book Week” (September 22nd -28th , 2019) is an annual event celebrating the freedom to read. It spotlights current and historical attempts to censor books in libraries and schools. The youth will be celebrating by guessing the banned book based on the description. Prizes for the winners!!

The film festival highlights and shares multimedia products developed by member institutions to increase knowledge and use of libraries, their spaces, services, collections, and expertise. Teenagers will team up to develop a film on how the library impacts our community.

Teen Lucha Libre Piñata Making T

Lucha libre is the term used in Mexico for professional wrestling, and is celebrated on this day to keep the traditions alive. We will be making piñatas with a lucha libre twist so they will look like your favorite characters wearing lucha libre masks.

Teen Pirates at the Library T

In honour of “Talk Like a Pirate Day” the library will be enjoying some pirate activities. As you are out and about on September 19th, don’t be surprised if people are saying, “Ahoy Matie,” “Avast,” “Aye, Aye Capt’n,” “Land ho!” and many other pirate-like phrases. Anchor’s away! Get your sea legs and hop on over to the library for an afternoon of Pirating the high seas. Best dressed pirate wins a prize.

Ages 8-13. Your pencil case carries so many of your back to school essentials – from your pencils, glue, and markers to hand sanitizer to keep you safe from the flu season. Why not add some flair to yours by creating your own custom pencil case? During this program, tweens will be able to add whatever decals they like to their case.
